Show Hunter Galloway

In 2013 Kelly Hull and her mum Jean were in search of a replacement for Ascot Sheer Delight (Kelly’s show hunter pony mare) as she was nearing retirement at the end of a super showing career.

Scrolling through Horse Zone Kelly came across a young chestnut mare.

The mare’s resemblance to Ascot Sheer Delight was uncanny and there was no questioning whether they should make the trip to view her. So off to Richmond they traveled and soon enough brought her home.

She was only a three-year-old at the time of purchase and had some maturing to do. Her stable name was Amber, her personality was perfect, and her breeding was unknown (nor was it important).

The breeder had a retired racehorse rescue mare and put her in foal to a teaser stallion at a high-profile stud, the result? Amber – Shown as KL Embers.

At the time of purchase Kelly a had good feeling and she knew this horse would be special.

Gracing her rider with three beautiful paces and a temperament to die for the successful Show Hunter Galloway adorns all the qualities of a competitive show horse.

Liked by both Australian and UK Judges – The list of accolades this horse holds to her name is endless.

The successful duo have had a stellar track record at the ACT and Southern NSW Championships achieving either Champion or Runner Up in the Large Hunter Galloway for the last 4 years.

The pair also continue to remain unbeaten in the Owner/Rider Show Hunter Galloway at Equestrian NSW events and the list of broad sashes from surrounding agricultural shows are a mile long.

By far, the best accolade awarded to this delightful young mare – and perhaps the most sought-after achievement for show horses – was winning Champion at Sydney Royal.

In 2015 not far out of her Newcomer debut, and only 5 years of age KL Embers placed first in the Novice Hunter Galloway class at Sydney Royal.

If that wasn’t exciting enough, the mare then went on to win the Open Large Hunter Galloway and work superbly to be declared the 2015 Sydney Royal Large Show Hunter Galloway Champion.

Unfortunately, due to a knee reconstruction Kelly was unfit to ride and Mum (Jean) stepped aboard for the win and it will be a forever memorable ‘mother-daughter’ moment. This win resonates with Kelly as the successful galloways best achievement thus far.

‘Sometimes when I’m in the car driving to work it still brings tears to my eyes’ said Kelly.

Whilst the wins are super special to Kelly she remains adamant that there is nothing like the thrill of riding through the entrance gates at SIEC, (Horsley Park) for ‘Show Horse Council Grand Nationals’.

“Three minutes in front of that atmospheric crowed gives you goosebumps”.

Each year under international judges from the UK Amber has achieved top 10 and places higher every year.

“She is a beautiful mare to ride and always tries so hard for me, but she really does love confidence in her rider”.

There is still much to be seen from this dynamic duo and with consistent training and hard work this pair continues to grow.

She still has so much more to give, and Kelly will continue to train hard to allow everyone to see the cadence she has yet to fully produce in the ring.
